The economic agenda in relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is currently taking precedence over the political agenda, which is a positive development, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of establishing commercial ties between the two nations. "It seems that the economic agenda is superior to the political agenda, and this is good because political programs serve the economic agenda. I am glad that trade relations are being established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I hope that soon we will not only limit ourselves to importing goods from Azerbaijan but will also export goods from Armenia to Azerbaijan," Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister also noted that Armenia is engaged in business negotiations with partners in Russia regarding the potential transfer of the concession management of the Armenian Railway to another entity. He clarified that these discussions are based on objective economic circumstances rather than political motives. "We are simply sharing the objective situation with our partners. We say that Armenia is simply losing its competitive advantages in this situation, and we have no other motive. I hope we can reach concrete solutions," he added.
This shift toward economic pragmatism comes as Azerbaijan and Armenia continue to work toward the normalization of relations following the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over its territories. The opening of regional transport communications and the establishment of trade routes are seen as critical components of the peace process in the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for the integration of regional economies to ensure long-term stability and prosperity in the region.
