Armenia will benefit from its European integration course regardless of the final decision on its membership in the European Union (EU). According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement during the 8th bilateral meeting of the Armenia-EU Civil Society Platform.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Yerevan does not intend to use pressure or "blackmail" in its rapprochement with the EU. "Yes, we have adopted a law regarding the initiation of Armenia's EU membership process. Our strategy is such that we will not use blackmail tools by saying 'you must accept us within a month'," Pashinyan noted during the session.
Pashinyan further highlighted that the country would gain from implementing European-style reforms even in the event of a rejection. "If the European Union decides to accept us, it will be excellent. If this does not happen, we will still win because we will become a modern country meeting the highest standards," the Prime Minister stated. This approach signals a shift toward long-term institutional alignment rather than immediate political ultimatums.
The relationship between Armenia and the European Union has intensified in recent years, particularly through the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). As Armenia seeks to diversify its foreign policy and strengthen democratic institutions, the government in Yerevan has increasingly looked toward Brussels for economic support and security cooperation. This integration process remains a focal point of regional dynamics in the South Caucasus, where Azerbaijan continues to monitor developments regarding regional stability and international partnerships.
