Paşinyan: Rusiya ilə münasibətlərdə kəskin addım atmayacağıq

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that his country will avoid confrontation in its relations with Russia.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Pashinyan made these remarks during a meeting with voters as part of an election campaign. He emphasized that Armenia intends to pursue a balanced policy in its dealings with Moscow while maintaining its own national interests.

The Prime Minister noted that he maintains a constructive relationship with the Russian President, highlighting that approximately 200 telephone conversations have taken place between the two leaders since 2018. "Russia is a superpower and must be treated with respect. We cannot subordinate our interests to those of Russia, which is a legitimate position. However, we will not enter into a confrontation with Russia, and dialogue will continue at the highest level," Pashinyan stated, adding that Armenia has not and will not take steps that harm Russian interests.

Relations between Armenia and Russia have faced significant scrutiny in recent years, particularly following the 44-day war in 2020 and the subsequent restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over the Garabagh region. While Armenia remains a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the government in Yerevan has increasingly sought to navigate complex geopolitical shifts. This statement reflects the ongoing efforts to manage traditional alliances while adapting to the new realities in the South Caucasus region.
