The Pakistani oil tanker "Shalamar" has successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Persian Gulf, marking a significant maritime movement in the region.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Bloomberg, that the vessel's passage comes during a period of intense geopolitical scrutiny. According to ship-tracking data, the tanker passed south of Iran's Larak Island on the evening of April 16, carrying approximately 450,000 barrels of crude oil previously loaded at the UAE's Das Island before entering the Gulf of Oman.

The Shalamar, which flies the Pakistani flag, entered the Persian Gulf over the weekend, becoming the first oil tanker to navigate the Strait of Hormuz since April 13. The vessel is owned and operated by the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. Official statements from Washington previously clarified that maritime restrictions were intended for Iranian ports and coastal areas rather than the Strait itself, limiting passage primarily for vessels arriving from or departing for Iranian terminals.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes. Following recent military escalations involving US-Israeli operations, Iran announced restrictions on February 28 regarding the passage of vessels belonging to hostile nations. Prior to the current regional tensions, the strategic waterway saw an average of 135 vessels transiting daily, highlighting its critical role in global energy security and international trade stability.
