Direct railway communication between Baku and Yerevan is expected to be established within the next few years as part of the TRIPP project. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, the country's Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan made this statement during a press conference.

The minister noted that alternative transport and logistics routes could be utilized until the direct railway link with Azerbaijan is fully operational. Papoyan emphasized that the process is complex and requires time, stating, "Currently, there are no active trade relations between the countries. There are several reasons for this – the markets are not yet fully familiar with each other, and the formation of trade relations takes time." He added that the state is creating the necessary conditions for trade by taking steps toward political agreements, opening roads, and commissioning railway lines within its authority.

The restoration of regional transport links is a key component of the broader peace process in the South Caucasus. Following the 2020 conflict, Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for the unblocking of regional communications, which is expected to transform the region into a major logistics hub connecting East and West. The integration of these transport corridors is anticipated to significantly boost economic cooperation and provide landlocked countries in the region with diversified access to international markets through Azerbaijan's expanding infrastructure network.
