The number of confirmed Ebola virus cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen to 282, according to the latest data released by the country's health authorities.

As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the DRC Ministry of Health issued a new report detailing the spread of the epidemic. The document indicates that the outbreak is primarily concentrated in Ituri province, which accounts for 264 of the 282 confirmed cases. Additionally, 15 cases have been confirmed in North Kivu province, and three cases in South Kivu province.

According to the official figures, 42 people have lost their lives to the virus, while 238 patients are currently receiving treatment. Two individuals have successfully recovered. The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo officially declared the Ebola outbreak on May 15, identifying the Bundibugyo virus strain—first discovered in Uganda in 2007—as the cause of the current health crisis.

Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness in humans, characterized by sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat. The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected people. The current situation in the DRC remains a significant public health concern, with reports indicating that the epidemic has also spread to neighboring Uganda, where both infection and fatality cases have been confirmed.
