A student opened fire at a school in the Turkish city of Kahramanmaraş, resulting in casualties before committing suicide. Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing NTV, that the eighth-grade student arrived at the educational institution armed with five weapons and seven magazines.
According to the Governor of Kahramanmaraş, Mukerrem Unluer, the attack has left at least one person dead and six others injured. Initial reports from the scene indicated that the perpetrator, whose father was reportedly a former police officer, targeted individuals within the school premises before turning the weapon on himself. Emergency services, including a large number of police units and medical teams, were immediately dispatched to the area to secure the site and provide urgent care to the victims.
This tragic event follows a similar incident just a day prior in Sanliurfa, Türkiye, where an attack on a high school resulted in 16 injuries. These consecutive incidents have raised significant concerns regarding school safety and security measures in the region. Kahramanmaraş, located in southern Türkiye, continues to recover from the broader social impacts of recent regional challenges, and local authorities are currently investigating the motives behind the shooting and how the minor obtained access to multiple firearms.
