Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned that actions by the United States and its allies are jeopardizing maritime navigation and energy transit through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Ghalibaf made these remarks in a statement shared on his social media account. He emphasized that attempts to impose blockades and violate ceasefires have undermined the security of one of the world's most vital maritime routes, leading to the formation of what he described as a "new equation" in the region.
"We know well that maintaining the status quo is unbearable for America, while we have not even started yet," Ghalibaf stated, suggesting that Tehran's response to Western pressure could intensify. The Speaker's comments highlight the ongoing friction regarding control and security in the Persian Gulf region, particularly concerning the movement of global energy resources.
The Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical artery for global energy supplies, with approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passing through the narrow waterway daily. Located between Oman and Iran, it connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Given its strategic importance, any perceived threat to shipping in the strait typically triggers significant volatility in international oil prices. These developments occur as the administration of US President Donald Trump continues to monitor regional security, maintaining a firm stance on maritime freedom and energy security in the Middle East.
