The ruling Civil Contract party has officially nominated Nikol Pashinyan as its candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, the decision was finalized during the party's extraordinary congress held today.

Participants of the congress unanimously supported Pashinyan's candidacy as the party prepares for the upcoming political cycle. The head of government announced the official agenda of the 8th extraordinary congress of the Civil Contract party on his Facebook page. The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that three primary issues were put to an open vote: the approval of the party's electoral list for the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026, the formal confirmation of Nikol Pashinyan as the prime ministerial candidate, and the adoption of the party's pre-election program.

This early nomination comes as Armenia navigates a complex domestic and regional political landscape. By securing Pashinyan's leadership nearly two years ahead of the 2026 vote, the Civil Contract party aims to consolidate its base and define its strategic roadmap. The congress also included the election of the session's chairman and secretaries through an open voting process, marking a significant step in the party's internal reorganization following recent regional shifts and the ongoing normalization process in the South Caucasus.
