An armed attack targeting farmers has been reported in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State, Nigeria.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, members of an armed group attacked civilians working in the fields, resulting in the deaths of 9 people. A significant number of individuals also sustained various injuries during the incident.
Local official and security expert Ishaq Kasai stated that the attack has dealt a severe blow to local stability. According to Kasai, the assault has undermined the fragile peace and temporary stability recently achieved through negotiations between state authorities and armed groups operating in the region.
Nigeria has long faced security challenges due to persistent attacks by various armed groups, including terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram and ISWAP. These groups frequently target rural communities, exacerbating the humanitarian and security crisis in several parts of the country.
