Traffic Congestion Reported on Major Baku Roads

The Ministry of Internal Affairs' Intelligent Transport Management Center released a list of affected routes

Heavy traffic congestion has been reported on several key streets and avenues in the Azerbaijani capital today, January 19, 2026. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Intelligent Transport Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has identified multiple locations where vehicle movement is currently restricted.

The current traffic situation in Baku includes congestion on the following routes:

  • Baku-Sumgait highway, in the direction of the "20 January" metro station;
  • Ali Mustafayev Street, towards Ziya Bunyadov Avenue;
  • Abdulvahab Salamzade Street, towards Ziya Bunyadov Avenue;
  • Heydar Aliyev Avenue, main road, towards the city center;
  • Heydar Aliyev Avenue, auxiliary road, towards the city center;
  • Ziya Bunyadov Avenue, from the intersection with Muzaffar Narimanov Street towards the "20 January" metro station;
  • Yusif Safarov Street, towards the city center;
  • Uzeyir Hajibeyli Street, up to the intersection with Azadlig Avenue;
  • 28 May Street, from the intersection with Pushkin Street to the intersection with Rashid Behbudov Street;
  • 1st Gol Kenari road, towards Ziya Bunyadov Avenue;
  • Binagadi highway, towards the "Azadlig Avenue" metro station;
  • Koroglu Rahimov Street, from the intersection with Academician Hasan Aliyev Street towards Heydar Aliyev Avenue;
  • Khatai Avenue, towards Heydar Aliyev Avenue;
  • Rashid Behbudov Street, in the direction of the Central Bank.

The Intelligent Transport Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for monitoring and regulating traffic flow in Baku through a network of cameras and automated systems. Such congestion is typical during peak hours in the capital, and authorities often recommend drivers to use alternative routes to ensure timely arrival at their destinations and to reduce the overall load on the city's primary infrastructure.
