Azerbaijan plans to increase the average internet speed across the country to 200 megabits per second (Mbps) by the end of this year, following the successful completion of the "Online Azerbaijan" project.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev made these remarks during a meeting dedicated to the unified action plan titled "Azerbaijan's New Digital Architecture." The minister highlighted the rapid progress of the nation's digital infrastructure, noting that when the project first launched, the average internet speed in Azerbaijan was approximately 12 Mbps. Today, that figure has reached 90 Mbps, while state-owned companies are already providing speeds of 150 Mbps.
“By the end of the year, we plan to bring this figure to 200 Mbps. Today, there is no remote point in Azerbaijan where broadband internet is not provided,” Minister Nabiyev stated. The "Online Azerbaijan" project is a key component of the government's strategy to bridge the digital divide and ensure high-speed connectivity in all regions, including rural areas and the liberated territories. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of transforming Azerbaijan into a regional digital hub through the development of the Middle Corridor's telecommunications infrastructure and the expansion of fiber-optic networks.
