NATO has officially announced the appointment of Kevin Hamilton as the Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Alliance, that Hamilton will be responsible for advancing NATO's policy objectives in these two strategically significant regions.
In addition to his role as special envoy, K. Hamilton has been appointed as the Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Partnerships in NATO’s Political Affairs and Security Policy Division. Prior to this strategic appointment, the diplomat served as Canada's Ambassador to Azerbaijan from 2023 to 2026 (with residence in Ankara). His extensive diplomatic career also includes serving as Ambassador to Romania, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Moldova between 2016 and 2020.
The appointment comes at a time when NATO is seeking to strengthen its institutional ties and security cooperation with partner nations in the South Caucasus. The Alliance maintains a policy of active engagement with Azerbaijan, focusing on defense reforms, regional security, and interoperability. This role is crucial for coordinating high-level political dialogue and ensuring the implementation of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) program across the region.
