On March 5, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran carried out acts of aggression using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iranian territory, targeting the Nakhchivan International Airport and other civilian infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The technical parameters of the UAVs and the specific details of these attacks are currently under investigation.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was stated in an official release by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.

"The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the attacks committed by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against civilian infrastructure in our country's territory in the absence of any military necessity. The full responsibility for this incident lies with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Ministry of Defense is preparing necessary response measures to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, and to ensure the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure. These acts of attack will not go unanswered," the statement emphasized.

Nakhchivan, an exclave of Azerbaijan, shares borders with Iran, Armenia, and Türkiye. The Nakhchivan International Airport serves as a vital transportation hub for the region, facilitating both domestic and international civilian travel. Under international law, targeting civilian infrastructure is considered a serious violation of sovereign rights and established global norms. Azerbaijan maintains a firm stance on protecting its borders and ensuring regional stability through both diplomatic and defensive capabilities.
