Zakir Həsənov: Azərbaycan BMT və NATO missiyalarını nəzərdən keçirir

Since 1999, more than 3,000 military personnel of the Azerbaijan Army have participated in peacekeeping operations conducted in various regions around the world.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov stated this in the foreword to the "Report on Peacekeeping Operations of the Azerbaijan Army," jointly prepared by the Center of Analysis of International Relations and the Ministry of Defense.

The Minister noted that the activities of Azerbaijani peacekeepers have consistently received high praise from the command of the peacekeeping forces in which they served, as well as from various countries and international organizations.

Zakir Hasanov emphasized that the turbulent geopolitical processes occurring globally and conflicts in various regions demonstrate the growing importance of peacekeepers:

"As a member of the international community and the UN, Azerbaijan supports all initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and supporting global security. Currently, the possibilities for the Azerbaijan Army to participate in various operations conducted by the UN and NATO to assist in maintaining international peace are being explored."

The Minister highlighted that the political decisions regarding participation in peacekeeping operations, the country's demonstrated will, and the contributions made by the peacekeeping forces have further strengthened Azerbaijan's reputation as a reliable partner and friend in the world, while also establishing it as a peace-loving nation.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Defense and the Center of Analysis of International Relations have prepared the "Report on Peacekeeping Operations of the Azerbaijan Army." This report examines peacekeeping operations that play a crucial role in restoring stability, maintaining ceasefire regimes, and ensuring long-term peace in the post-conflict period. The three-chapter study presents the theoretical framework of peacekeeping operations and analyzes the activities of the peacekeeping contingent formed within the Azerbaijan Army over the years.

Background: Azerbaijan's involvement in international peacekeeping has been a cornerstone of its foreign and defense policy for over two decades. By contributing troops to missions in regions such as Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq, Baku has demonstrated its commitment to international security frameworks and interoperability with NATO and UN standards, reinforcing its role as a strategic contributor to global stability.
