The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has officially approved the country's accession to the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments.
According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", the relevant draft law was presented for discussion during today's extraordinary session of the parliament.
It was noted during the session that the Convention was originally signed in London on February 13, 2004. Following deliberations, the draft law was put to a vote and adopted in a single reading.
The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments is a key maritime treaty designed to prevent the spread of harmful aquatic organisms from one region to another. By establishing strict standards for ballast water management, the convention aims to protect marine ecosystems from invasive species that can be transported in the ballast tanks of cargo ships, thereby ensuring safer and more sustainable international maritime trade.
