The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent public advisory regarding unstable weather conditions expected in the coming days.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the ministry's statement highlights the latest forecast from the National Hydrometeorological Service.
"According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, strong winds are expected in some areas until August 17. The weather is forecasted to be intermittently rainy, with heavy precipitation in certain locations. These conditions may lead to increased water levels in rivers and short-term flash floods in some mountain streams," the ministry stated.
In light of these forecasts, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has reiterated essential safety protocols. During periods of strong wind, citizens are advised to stay away from lightweight structures, temporary buildings, billboards, and advertising signs. It is also recommended to avoid standing under power poles, electrical wires, or tall trees. Furthermore, given that strong winds complicate firefighting efforts, the ministry emphasizes the strict observance of fire safety regulations during such weather conditions. Small vessel operators are reminded that maritime activities are prohibited during adverse weather.
Regarding the risk of heavy rainfall, the ministry advises the public to avoid areas prone to flash floods and mudslides. In the event of such danger, individuals are urged to immediately seek higher ground.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations is the primary government body in Azerbaijan responsible for civil defense, disaster management, and fire safety. It frequently issues such advisories to ensure public safety during extreme weather events, which are common in the country's diverse climate zones, ranging from mountainous regions to coastal areas along the Caspian Sea.
