Brazil's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira has held a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, that the ministers discussed bilateral cooperation, interaction within multilateral platforms, and the current security situation in the Middle East.
During the conversation, the sides reviewed the activities of the Azerbaijan-Brazil Working Group on Trade and Investment, exploring opportunities for further expansion. Significant attention was paid to the climate agenda, specifically coordination efforts between the upcoming COP29 hosted by Azerbaijan and COP30 to be hosted by Brazil. Expressing serious concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the ministers emphasized the importance of preventing further escalation and resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic means based on the norms and principles of international law.
Minister Mauro Vieira expressed Brazil's solidarity with Azerbaijan regarding the drone attack carried out against Azerbaijan from the territory of Iran. Furthermore, the Brazilian minister conveyed deep gratitude to Baku for the support provided in the evacuation of Brazilian citizens and diplomats from Iran amid the current security challenges. The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
The diplomatic relationship between Azerbaijan and Brazil has strengthened significantly in recent years, particularly in the fields of energy, agriculture, and environmental policy. As Azerbaijan prepares to host the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, the partnership with Brazil—the host of COP30—is seen as a critical bridge for ensuring continuity in global climate action and sustainability goals between the two presiding nations.
