Mauritius refused landing clearance for a scheduled flight from Israel on Saturday, forcing its cancellation after efforts to secure approval failed, Israeli media reported.
The Air Seychelles flight was due to depart Israel for Mauritius, but it was called off after authorities did not grant permission for the aircraft to land, according to the Ynet news website.
Spirit World Productions, the Israeli tour operator behind the trip, said the flight had received the necessary approvals several months earlier. The company said it was later informed that the refusal was based on “political and diplomatic considerations.”
Reason for refusal remains unconfirmed
Mauritian authorities have not yet commented publicly on the decision.
Separately, sources familiar with the matter told Israel’s Channel 12 that the refusal was linked to the absence of a Mauritius delegation during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly earlier this week.
Arrangements for affected passengers
Spirit World Productions said it was working with Air Seychelles and the relevant authorities to make arrangements for passengers affected by the cancellation.
