Balakən və Zaqatalada leysan: Təbiət hadisəsi fəsadlara yol açdı

Intense rainfall in the Balakan and Zagatala districts of Azerbaijan has resulted in significant flooding and property damage.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, unstable weather conditions have persisted in the country's northwestern region over the past few days, with the most severe precipitation recorded in the administrative territories of Balakan and Zagatala.

The heavy downpours, which began on the evening of July 7, intensified throughout the night into July 8. As a result of the torrential rain falling on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, water levels in the Balakan, Katex, Hunbul, Tala, Muxax, and other local rivers rose sharply. Several rivers experienced flash floods, while others reached critical levels, threatening to overflow their banks.

The flooding of these mountain rivers has inundated residential courtyards in several settlements. The natural event has caused damage to agricultural lands, including grain, corn, vegetable plots, and hazelnut orchards. Local authorities are currently monitoring the situation as the heavy rainfall continues in the region.

The Greater Caucasus region of Azerbaijan is frequently subject to seasonal flash floods due to its mountainous topography. The Ministry of Emergency Situations typically coordinates with local executive authorities in such instances to mitigate damage to infrastructure and provide necessary support to affected residents in the impacted districts.
