Leaders of the G7 nations have reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea, in strict accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this stance was formalized in a joint statement issued following the conclusion of the G7 summit held in Evian-le-Ben, France.
In the statement, G7 leaders expressed profound concern regarding North Korea's ongoing nuclear and ballistic missile programs, emphasizing their unwavering support for the total denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The document also highlighted the urgent need for strengthened international cooperation to combat cryptocurrency theft and cybercriminal activities linked to North Korea, with leaders pledging a unified approach to addressing these threats.
This diplomatic pressure comes against a backdrop of rising tensions; on June 14, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement declaring that the issue of the country's denuclearization was "finally and irreversibly closed," asserting that Pyongyang's status as a nuclear state remains unchanged.
Beyond the Korean Peninsula, the G7 leaders emphasized the importance of a "free and open" Indo-Pacific region based on the rule of law. They voiced strong opposition to any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo in the East and South China Seas, as well as the Taiwan Strait, through force or coercion. The summit also addressed critical geopolitical issues, including the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the conflict in Ukraine.
