Leyla Aliyeva, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC), has visited the center to review its ongoing activities and international initiatives.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Executive Director of BIMC, Ravan Hasanov, provided a comprehensive briefing on the center's strategic operations and its role in promoting Azerbaijan's model of tolerance.
Established in 2014 by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the Center implements vital projects aimed at the scientific study and international promotion of Azerbaijan's multiculturalism model. The institution maintains close cooperation with international organizations and academic circles to foster intercultural dialogue.
During the visit, it was noted that the Center oversees the teaching of the "Azerbaijani Multiculturalism" course at 27 leading universities worldwide. Domestically, the subject is taught at the master's level in nearly 40 universities across Azerbaijan, while "Introduction to Multiculturalism" is a core subject for undergraduate students. The Center also prioritizes the publication of literature in the languages of ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, ensuring the preservation of the country's diverse cultural heritage.
Leyla Aliyeva emphasized the significance of projects dedicated to protecting multicultural values. She highly praised the center's efforts in organizing international conferences addressing Islamophobia, antisemitism, and xenophobia, as well as its work in promoting Azerbaijan's Christian heritage on the global stage.
Azerbaijan has long been recognized as a historical crossroads of civilizations, where various religious and ethnic groups have coexisted peacefully for centuries. The state policy of multiculturalism, formalized under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, views this diversity as a national asset. The BIMC serves as the primary body responsible for transforming these traditional values into a consistent framework for international diplomacy and educational outreach, reinforcing Azerbaijan's reputation as a global hub for tolerance.
