The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Azerbaijan has issued a strong condemnation regarding the recent drone attacks targeting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the diplomatic mission expressed its stance through an official statement on its social media platforms. "The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the drone attacks on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which damaged the airport, resulted in civilian injuries, and violated the principles of international law. We stand in solidarity with Azerbaijan and reaffirm our support for peace and stability in the region," the embassy stated.

The incident occurred earlier today when drones launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran entered Azerbaijani airspace. One drone struck the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school building in the village of Shekarabad. The strikes caused significant damage to the airport infrastructure and resulted in injuries to four individuals, who are currently receiving medical attention.

Nakhchivan, an exclave of Azerbaijan, holds strategic importance for the country's regional connectivity. This escalation follows a period of heightened regional tensions and marks a serious violation of international norms regarding territorial integrity and the protection of civilian infrastructure. Azerbaijani authorities have frequently emphasized the necessity of maintaining security along its borders and have called for international adherence to sovereign boundaries to ensure long-term stability in the South Caucasus.
