The European Union continues to criticize Georgia and is making no attempt to reconsider or reset its relations with the country, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that the Prime Minister expressed concerns over the current trajectory of Georgia-EU relations. "Previously, the West was presented to us as something perfect, but recent international processes have revealed many problems, primarily related to Europe. Since we consider ourselves a natural part of the European space, we are addressing these issues at their root," Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister further noted that Brussels has consistently criticized Georgia in recent years, attributing this to the EU bureaucracy's lack of independence and the influence of informal forces. "It is quite clear that after losing the lucrative Russian market, if the European bureaucracy acted independently, it would have started looking for alternative markets in the East. Georgia is an optimal route in this regard, but Brussels does not want to reconsider its relations with our country," he added. According to Kobakhidze, Georgian society observes the European Union's double standards and evaluates them accordingly, emphasizing that while Georgia is a small country, it remains committed to defending its national interests and pursuing a policy of peace.

Relations between Georgia and the European Union have faced significant challenges recently, particularly following the adoption of legislation in Tbilisi regarding foreign influence, which Brussels claims deviates from European democratic standards. Despite Georgia being granted EU candidate status in December 2023, the integration process has effectively been put on hold as European officials call for political reforms. Georgia continues to serve as a vital transit hub for energy and cargo between Europe and Asia, a role that remains central to regional geopolitical dynamics.
