The Iran-backed Houthi movement has announced plans to resume missile and drone strikes against international shipping lanes and Israeli targets.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports and information from two high-ranking officials within the Houthi movement in Yemen, the group has decided to intensify military operations in a show of support for Iran.

The officials stated that while a formal declaration has yet to be issued, there is a high probability that the first strikes could take place tonight. This decision marks a significant departure from the relative calm that had been established through various regional understandings.

The resurgence of Houthi activity poses a renewed threat to the security of international trade in the Red Sea. This escalation, intended as a support measure for Iran, signals a potential expansion of the conflict geography across the Middle East. The Red Sea is a critical global maritime artery, and previous attacks by the group have forced major shipping companies to reroute vessels around the Cape of Good Hope, significantly increasing global logistics costs and delivery times.
