The Deputy Minister of Defense and Commander of the Land Forces of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Hikmat Mirzayev, has met with the visiting Commander of the Land Forces of the Republic of Türkiye, Army General Metin Tokel, to discuss bilateral military cooperation.
The Ministry of Defense informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that the meeting involved a detailed exchange of views on the current state of military relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as well as prospects for further expansion. Both parties emphasized the significance of joint and international exercises in enhancing the professionalism, knowledge, and skills of the military personnel of both brotherly nations, while also discussing several other issues of mutual interest.
Military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye is rooted in the Shusha Declaration, signed in June 2021, which officially elevated the bilateral relationship to the level of a strategic alliance. This partnership encompasses a wide range of activities, including regular joint military drills, personnel training programs, and extensive cooperation within the defense industry. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernize the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in alignment with the standards of the Turkish Armed Forces, thereby strengthening regional security and stability.
