Chief of General Staff Karim Valiyev attends CIS meeting in Astana

Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated in the regular meeting of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member states held in Astana on June 18.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Defense, the heads of the delegations visited the "Defenders of the Fatherland" monument prior to the meeting, where they laid a wreath and paid tribute to the memory of the heroes.

During the committee meeting, participants engaged in a detailed exchange of views regarding the current state and development prospects of military cooperation within the CIS region, the maintenance of peace and security, and other issues of mutual interest.

In his address at the meeting, Chief of the General Staff Colonel General Karim Valiyev spoke about the military-political situation in the South Caucasus following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. He highlighted the new realities based on historical justice, as well as broader implications for Eurasian security.

The CIS Committee of Chiefs of Staff serves as a key platform for coordinating military policy and defense cooperation among member states. Regular meetings of this committee are essential for fostering regional stability and addressing collective security challenges across the Eurasian space, reflecting the ongoing commitment of participating nations to collaborative defense strategies.
