Kazakhstan has temporarily suspended several joint projects with Iran amid the increasingly complex regional situation. The announcement was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Isetov during a briefing at the Senate, Operative Information Center-OMM reports citing Kazinform.

"As you understand, the situation is currently very complicated. Due to the state of military conflict in the country, many of our projects with Iran have been frozen. Our businesses and entrepreneurs are currently in a 'wait-and-see' mode," Isetov stated. According to the Deputy Minister, the suspended initiatives primarily involve grain supplies and mutual trade in food products.

Despite the suspension, Isetov emphasized that Kazakhstan is not suffering significant economic losses, as the volume of these specific cooperation projects does not critically impact the national economy. He noted that while the pause in projects has a certain negative effect given the traditionally good partnership with Iran, the overall impact remains limited. Kazakhstan continues to monitor the regional security landscape to determine the future of its bilateral commercial engagements.

This move comes as Central Asian nations increasingly navigate the geopolitical complexities of the Middle East and surrounding regions. Kazakhstan, as a major global grain exporter, often utilizes diverse trade routes, but regional instability frequently necessitates shifts in logistics and partnership priorities. The suspension reflects a broader trend of cautious economic diplomacy in the region to mitigate risks associated with international sanctions and regional conflicts.
