Israel-Iran tensions escalate: Long-term operation expected
The Israeli military is preparing for a long-term operation against Iran that could last for several weeks, though the deployment of ground troops remains unlikely at this stage.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Reuters, Nadav Shoshani, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), shared these details during a press briefing regarding the current military strategy.
"We have developed a general plan spanning several weeks," Shoshani stated during an online briefing. He added that the duration of the military operation remains flexible and may be adjusted based on the evolving situation on the ground.
Will ground forces enter Iran?
Addressing questions regarding the potential for a ground invasion, Shoshani noted that such a move is currently not a primary consideration. "At this stage, I do not believe this is a highly probable scenario for Israeli forces," he clarified while discussing the progress made since the start of the operations.
The current escalation follows a period of heightened regional instability and direct military confrontations between the two nations. Historically, Israel has relied on its advanced air superiority and intelligence capabilities to conduct precision strikes against strategic targets, while Iran has utilized its network of regional proxies. This potential multi-week campaign marks a significant shift in the scale of direct engagement, reflecting the deepening security crisis in the Middle East. International observers remain concerned that a prolonged conflict could further destabilize global energy markets and regional security architectures.
