Spain's embassy in Tehran has officially resumed its operations following a period of suspension due to regional security concerns.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the diplomatic mission announced the reopening via its official X account. "Ambassador Antonio Sánchez-Benedito Gaspar, together with the diplomatic team and local staff, is resuming his activities with a commitment to supporting peace," the mission stated. This move follows an earlier announcement by Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares on April 9 regarding the intention to restore the embassy's functions.

The decision to return the diplomatic staff was finalized following the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. Spanish diplomats had previously been evacuated from the Iranian capital following the commencement of military operations involving the United States and Israel in the region.

The reopening of the Spanish mission is seen as a significant step toward normalizing diplomatic channels in the Middle East. Spain, as a member of the European Union, often maintains strategic diplomatic presence in Tehran to facilitate dialogue on regional stability, energy security, and international nuclear agreements. The return of the ambassador signals a shift toward stabilization in the wake of recent geopolitical tensions that had necessitated the temporary withdrawal of several European diplomatic delegations from Iran.
