Iran's Temporary Management Council has held a meeting to discuss the procedures for the Assembly of Experts, which is tasked with electing the country's new Supreme Leader.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the information was released by Iranian State Television.
The Temporary Management Council includes Masoud Pezeshkian, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and Ayatollah Ali Reza Arafi. The council is currently overseeing the transition period following the recent developments in Tehran.
It was reported that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei lost his life as a result of air strikes. Having assumed power in 1989 following the death of Imam Khomeini, he led Iran for 37 years, serving as the highest political and religious authority in the Islamic Republic.
The Assembly of Experts, a deliberative body of 88 theologians, is constitutionally mandated to appoint the Supreme Leader. Under the Iranian political system, the Supreme Leader holds ultimate authority over all major state institutions, including the armed forces, the judiciary, and state media. The selection process is considered a critical juncture for the country's future domestic and foreign policy orientation.
