The Iranian Assembly of Experts has reached a consensus regarding the successor to the country's Supreme Leader.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Iranian media, reports that a high-ranking member of the Assembly of Experts confirmed the development.

According to the report, while a majority agreement has been reached on the successor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, certain obstacles remain before an official announcement can be made. Assembly member Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri stated that although the clerical body has found common ground on a candidate, specific procedural and logistical hurdles must still be addressed.

Mohsen Heydari Alekasir, a representative for Khuzestan province in the Assembly of Experts, further clarified that current security conditions have complicated the physical gathering of members required to formally finalize the leadership transition. Internal sources suggest that the assembly has already selected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, as the successor, though internal debates continue regarding the timing and method of the public declaration.

The Assembly of Experts is a powerful deliberative body in Iran consisting of 88 Islamic jurists who are constitutionally tasked with appointing, supervising, and, if necessary, dismissing the Supreme Leader. Given the Supreme Leader's ultimate authority over Iran's military, judiciary, and foreign policy, the selection process is of critical geopolitical significance for the region and the international community. The transition comes at a time of heightened regional tensions and internal discussions regarding the future direction of the Islamic Republic.
