Azerbaijani border guards have prevented the smuggling of more than 55 kilograms of narcotics from Iran into the country.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the State Border Service (SBS), the seizures were carried out within the service area of the "Goytepe" border detachment. On April 23, at approximately 17:25, officers discovered and seized 23.3 kilograms of marijuana. A subsequent operation on April 26 at 14:45 led to the confiscation of an additional 32.274 kilograms of the same substance.

Azerbaijan remains a key transit point for drug trafficking due to its geographical location between Asia and Europe. The State Border Service and other law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan have intensified their efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking, particularly along the southern borders. In recent years, the Republic of Azerbaijan has significantly modernized its border infrastructure and surveillance systems to curb the flow of illicit substances and strengthen regional security. Operational and investigative measures are currently ongoing to identify all parties involved in the smuggling attempts.
