Schools across Iran will transition to remote learning starting April 21, following a formal directive issued by the Iranian Ministry of Education. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Al-Jazeera, the shift to online classes applies to all educational levels and grades nationwide and will remain in effect until further notice.

The ministry's decision is reportedly linked to the heightened security situation following the outbreak of military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. These operations resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials. In response, Iran launched strikes against targets in Israel, as well as locations in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus, where US and allied military bases are situated.

Despite a temporary two-week ceasefire agreed upon on the night of April 8, 2026, diplomatic efforts to secure a long-term resolution have faltered. Negotiations held in Islamabad on April 11-12, mediated by Pakistan, concluded without a breakthrough after hours of discussions. The transition to distance learning reflects the ongoing instability in the region as educational institutions prioritize student safety amid the collapse of diplomatic talks and the threat of renewed hostilities.
