Azerbaijani border guards have successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of narcotics into the country from Iran using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the State Border Service, the incident occurred within the service area of the Lankaran border detachment. Following intensive border search and operational measures, authorities identified and thwarted the smuggling attempt.
During the subsequent search operations in the border zone, officials discovered and seized a total of 13 kilograms and 956 grams of marijuana. Operational and investigative measures regarding the incident are currently ongoing.
The protection of Azerbaijan's state borders remains a top priority for the State Border Service, particularly in countering transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. The use of modern surveillance technology, including drones, has become an increasingly common tactic for smugglers, prompting the State Border Service to enhance its technical monitoring and rapid response capabilities along the southern border to ensure national security.
