The inaction of the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is "fueling aggression" against nuclear facilities such as the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Reuters, that this statement was made in a formal letter sent by Mohammad Eslami to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on April 6.
According to the report, Eslami stated that Iran's only operational nuclear power plant has already been targeted four times. The most recent attack, which occurred on April 4, resulted in the death of one security guard and left several others injured. Eslami warned that such strikes could lead to the release of radioactive materials from the operational reactor, causing "irreversible consequences" for the population, the environment, and neighboring countries.
Eslami characterized the attacks as a blatant violation of international law and criticized the agency's "lack of decisive action." He emphasized that merely expressing concern is insufficient and may instead encourage further strikes. The Bushehr NPP, located on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, is a critical component of the country's energy infrastructure and has long been a focal point of international discussions regarding nuclear safety and regional security. Under international conventions, attacks on nuclear facilities are strictly prohibited due to the catastrophic humanitarian and ecological risks involved.
