The visit of the US Vice President J.D. Vance was a very significant event for the bilateral relations between the two nations, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during an interview with a correspondent from the "France 24" television channel in Munich.
"The visit of the Vice President of the United States is inherently significant for any country. In the current context, it was marked by the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the governments of the United States and Azerbaijan. Thus, we have become an official strategic partner of the world's most powerful country, and we consider this a great success for our nation," the head of state emphasized.
President Ilham Aliyev further noted that the Strategic Charter, which has been made public, covers various sectors of cooperation. "It consists of different sections. One of them relates to the sale of defense products, but it is not limited to that. It includes energy, communications, artificial intelligence, investment, and trade. Furthermore, all restrictions regarding the supply of weapons to Azerbaijan have been lifted," he added.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, a premier global forum for debating international security policy. The signing of the Strategic Charter marks a new era in Baku-Washington relations, particularly following the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2025. This partnership is expected to enhance regional security and economic integration in the South Caucasus, solidifying Azerbaijan's role as a key strategic hub for energy and technology in the region.
