President Ilham Aliyev has addressed a letter to US President Donald Trump.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter reads as follows:

"To His Excellency Mr. Donald Trump, President of the United States of America

Dear Mr. President,

One year has passed since the historic Washington Summit, hosted by the United States on August 8, 2025, which laid the foundation for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

A year ago, by undertaking a responsible historical mission, you created a turning point in establishing sustainable peace in the South Caucasus and normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Thanks to your determination and unwavering will, you succeeded in ending a conflict that had lasted for three decades and laying the foundation for an era of reconciliation and mutual partnership for our peoples.

The trilateral Joint Declaration we signed under your witness at the White House, the agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations initialed between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the joint appeal adopted regarding the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group played a decisive role in ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, opening a bright page for future sustainable development and mutual cooperation. At the same time, one of the important results of your peacebuilding efforts—the TRIPP project—is of great importance in terms of multilateral economic cooperation, the development of transport links, and the provision of security in the South Caucasus. I once again express my deep gratitude for the strong leadership you have demonstrated in promoting the region's peace agenda.

Today, Azerbaijani society is adapting to living in the new reality and peaceful environment that has formed in the region. Over the past year, important work has been done in terms of developing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Restrictions on cargo transportation from Azerbaijan to Armenia have been lifted, and Azerbaijani oil products, as well as grain and other products from third countries, have begun to be exported to Armenia through our country's territory. We are witnessing the real benefits of peace in economic, trade, and other fields, and we are continuing our efforts to further strengthen it, turn it into practical action, and form an environment of mutual trust.

Dear Mr. President,

The meeting held in Washington last August is also of great historical importance in terms of bilateral Azerbaijan-US relations. It was as a result of that meeting that our interstate relations entered a qualitatively new stage of strategic partnership. Six months later, the visit of Vice President J.D. Vance to Azerbaijan and the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter covering mutual investment, trade, energy, connectivity, transport, artificial intelligence, and security, as well as the high-level contacts and agreements reached over the past year, are indicators of the successful path we have covered in a short time and the importance you attach to the development of Azerbaijan-US relations.

At the same time, we assess your decision to extend the suspension of the discriminatory Section 907 of the 'Freedom Support Act' as an important step towards restoring historical justice.

We can proudly say that the current level of Azerbaijan-US relations is at its highest peak in the 34-year history of diplomatic relations. I express my gratitude once again, on my own behalf and on behalf of the entire Azerbaijani people, for this great achievement, as well as for your invaluable services in the formation and deepening of our strategic partnership.

We are determined to continue expanding and enriching with new content the relations and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the US, based on friendship, mutual trust, respect, and support. We look forward to working with you in this direction.

I express my deep respect and esteem to you and wish you robust health, happiness, and continued success in your honorable and responsible activities for the sake of the peace, well-being, and prosperity of the friendly American people.

Sincerely,

Ilham Aliyev"

Context: The Washington Summit of 2025 marked a pivotal shift in South Caucasus diplomacy. By facilitating the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group and the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter, the US has played a central role in transitioning the region from decades of conflict toward a new era of economic integration, exemplified by the TRIPP project and the normalization of trade routes between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
