In 2024, Azerbaijan welcomed 46,000 citizens from Uzbekistan, followed by 62,000 in 2025. During the first eight months of 2026, the number of Uzbek visitors reached 44,000, according to official data.
As reported by Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev shared these statistics during an interview with the Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA), highlighting the steady growth in tourism between the two countries.
President Aliyev emphasized the successful development of inter-regional cooperation, noting that sister-city and partnership relations have been established between numerous cities, including Baku-Tashkent, Ismayilli-Rishtan, Shusha-Khiva, Lankaran-Bukhara, Sheki-Kokand, Bilasuvar-Termez, Mingachevir-Namangan, Fuzuli-Gulistan, Guba-Jizzakh, and Beylagan-Shahrisabz. Plans are also underway to establish sister-city relations between Nakhchivan and Urgench.
"The sister-city initiatives between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are particularly significant. They serve as a vital platform for cooperation that brings our peoples closer, preserves our shared historical, cultural, and spiritual values, and strengthens friendship and mutual trust among future generations," the head of state remarked.
The deepening ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan reflect a broader strategic partnership rooted in shared Turkic heritage. These diplomatic and cultural exchanges, ranging from tourism to municipal cooperation, play a crucial role in fostering regional stability and enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
