President Ilham Aliyev holds expanded meeting with Chancellor Merz

On July 21, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held an expanded meeting in Berlin with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the meeting highlighted the significance of the strategic agenda document signed between Azerbaijan and Germany. Both leaders emphasized the necessity of establishing working groups to systematically advance cooperation across various sectors, as outlined in the agreement.

During the discussions, the parties underscored Azerbaijan's pivotal role in Europe's energy security and the growing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor. The leaders also addressed the importance of reciprocal high-level visits in fostering bilateral relations and exchanged views on pressing regional issues.

Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz congratulated the head of state on the progress achieved in the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He reiterated Germany's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the region.

Germany and Azerbaijan have maintained a robust partnership, particularly in the energy sector, where Azerbaijan serves as a key supplier to European markets. The Middle Corridor, a trade route connecting China and Europe via Central Asia and the Caucasus, has become a central pillar of this cooperation, enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration.
