President Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the occasion of Democracy and National Unity Day.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the message reads as follows:
"Dear Mr. President, my dear brother,
I pay deep tribute to the cherished memory of all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect their homeland while preventing the coup attempt in the Republic of Türkiye on July 15, 2016. I extend my deepest condolences to their families and the brotherly people of Türkiye.
Ten years ago, brotherly Türkiye wrote one of the most tragic, yet honorable, pages of its modern history. The treacherous coup attempt aimed at statehood, the constitutional order, national will, and democratic foundations was decisively thwarted thanks to the unwavering determination, resilience, and infinite loyalty of the Turkish people to their homeland. The fact that thousands of people poured into the squares, shielding the state, the flag, and national values, was etched into national memory as a true epic of heroism.
Your decisive and visionary leadership, along with your people's unity around you and their immediate, unhesitating response to your calls, were the key factors that saved your country from great tragedies on that fateful night. Under your leadership, Türkiye emerged from this test even stronger, demonstrating its national will and traditions of statehood to the entire world once again.
The events of that historic day proved that no malicious intent or destructive force can withstand the unity of the people and the state. That is why the 'Democracy and National Unity Day,' celebrated every year on July 15, is a symbol of your people's national solidarity, fighting spirit, traditions of statehood, and will for freedom.
Guided by the principle of 'One nation, two states,' the people and the state of Azerbaijan demonstrated solidarity with brotherly Türkiye during those decisive moments, just as they always have. All of this once again confirmed how strong and unbreakable the brotherhood and unity of our peoples are.
I am confident that the strong Azerbaijan-Türkiye friendship and brotherhood, which is a legacy passed down from generation to generation, will continue to strengthen, and our strategic alliance will continue to develop on an upward trajectory and be enriched with new content through our joint efforts.
My dear brother, I wish you robust health, happiness, success in your high state activities, and peace, prosperity, and welfare to the brotherly Republic of Türkiye."
