President Ilham Aliyev held an expanded meeting with the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, on February 27 to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that following the meeting, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos signed the "Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Defense between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia" and the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Organizing the 32nd Session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32)."
As part of the Ethiopian Prime Minister's visit to Azerbaijan, several other documents were also signed, including Memorandums of Understanding between the respective Ministries of Agriculture, the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan and the Ethiopian Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of Azerbaijan and the Ethiopian Investment Commission, as well as between Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC and the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation.
The strengthening of ties between Baku and Addis Ababa reflects Azerbaijan's growing diplomatic footprint in Africa and its commitment to South-South cooperation. Ethiopia, as a key political hub in East Africa and the seat of the African Union, represents a strategic partner for Azerbaijan in expanding economic and security initiatives across the continent. These new agreements, particularly in defense and climate action, underscore a shared vision for stability and sustainable development ahead of major international forums.
