Russian prosecutors have requested a six-year prison sentence and a fine of 155 million rubles (approximately 3.3 million AZN) for Azerbaijani blogger Huseyn Hasanov, who stands accused of money laundering.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the "Mash" Telegram channel, the judicial proceedings are being conducted in absentia as the defendant is currently on an international wanted list and is believed to be residing abroad.
Case materials indicate that between 2019 and 2021, Hasanov allegedly failed to pay 175 million rubles (approximately 3.8 million AZN) in taxes, subsequently laundering a portion of these funds through real estate investments. While the tax evasion charges were dropped after the debt was settled, the money laundering allegations remain active.
Hasanov, who is reportedly living in the United Arab Emirates, denies the money laundering charges. His defense attorney, Mikhail Yusupov, stated that the blogger has fully settled his financial obligations to the state, totaling nearly 300 million rubles. Money laundering cases in Russia often involve complex financial investigations, and such high-profile cases involving social media figures frequently draw significant public attention due to the intersection of digital influence and legal accountability.
