A tanker navigating outside of routes designated by Iran has struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in a fire onboard the vessel.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from IRIB, the incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"A supertanker that violated safety regulations struck two naval mines, triggering a fire," the IRGC stated. The naval command further warned that vessels failing to adhere to the established security protocols in the Strait of Hormuz would face similar consequences.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes through this narrow passage, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Given its strategic importance, any disruption or military activity in the region frequently leads to immediate fluctuations in global oil prices and heightened geopolitical scrutiny.
