A security incident was reported after an unidentified munition struck an oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the information was released by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), citing military sources.
According to the report, two crew members sustained minor injuries in the attack. The damaged tanker continued sailing under its own power toward its next port of call, and no environmental pollution was reported at the scene.
Amid persistently high military tensions in the region, the UKMTO advised all commercial vessels using the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz to exercise maximum caution and immediately report any suspicious activity.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major international maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is one of the world’s most important energy transit corridors, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments.
