A vessel navigating the Strait of Hormuz has been struck by an unidentified object, resulting in casualties among the crew.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued an official statement regarding the incident.
In its written statement, the UKMTO reported that an unidentified object impacted the engine room of the vessel while it was in transit through the Strait of Hormuz. The strike has led to confirmed casualties among the crew members. The remaining crew members were successfully rescued by the Oman Coast Guard.
Authorities are currently investigating the scale and circumstances of the attack to determine the source of the projectile and the nature of the security threat. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies, with a significant portion of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passing through its narrow waters daily. Any disruption in this region often triggers immediate concerns regarding international maritime security and global energy market stability.
