An armored vehicle carrying a significant amount of gold and cash crashed on the Izmir-Istanbul highway in Turkiye, resulting in several injuries and the disappearance of multiple gold bars. The vehicle was reportedly transporting the valuables to the city of Bursa when the accident occurred at the Karacabey Canbaz location.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing TRT Haber, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and strike barriers. The driver and two other individuals on board sustained injuries and were immediately attended to by gendarmerie and emergency medical teams dispatched to the scene.
Following the collision, authorities discovered that 11 gold bars, each weighing one kilogram, were missing from the cargo belonging to a jewelry firm. While law enforcement managed to recover most of the scattered items, an intensive search of the wreckage led to the discovery of only three bars hidden within the vehicle's damaged compartments. Gendarmerie forces have launched a large-scale operation in the area to locate the remaining eight kilograms of gold.
The Izmir-Istanbul highway is a vital commercial corridor in Turkiye, frequently used for the transport of industrial and high-value goods between major urban centers. Such incidents involving armored transport typically trigger high-level security protocols to prevent theft and ensure the recovery of sensitive assets. Local authorities are currently investigating whether the missing bars were displaced by the impact or removed from the site following the crash.
