The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has released an update regarding the condition of Azerbaijani citizens injured following a drone attack on cargo ships in the Sea of Azov.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) provided the following statement:
"As previously noted, immediately following reports of casualties and injuries among our citizens resulting from a drone attack on cargo vessels in the Sea of Azov on June 5, representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation were dispatched to the region."
Consular department staff are currently present in the city of Yeysk, providing necessary assistance to the injured and rescued Azerbaijani citizens. Their condition is reported as stable, with several individuals expected to be discharged from the hospital in the near future.
Search and rescue operations conducted by the relevant authorities of the Russian Federation are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying the deceased and carrying out other necessary procedures. Simultaneously, the embassy is processing documentation for the rescued citizens, including the issuance of return certificates to facilitate their repatriation to Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to monitor the situation closely and maintains active coordination with relevant agencies. Further information regarding the identities of the deceased and the repatriation of their remains will be provided to the public in due course.
The Sea of Azov, a critical maritime route connecting Russia and Ukraine, has seen increased security risks due to the ongoing regional conflict. Azerbaijan maintains a policy of providing consular protection to its citizens abroad, ensuring that diplomatic missions remain the primary point of contact for nationals in distress during international crises.
