Foggy weather conditions have significantly reduced visibility on several roads across the capital, prompting official safety warnings for motorists and pedestrians.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Main State Traffic Police Department (BDYPI) has issued an urgent appeal to road users regarding the current atmospheric conditions in Baku. Officials noted that restricted visibility poses a direct challenge to vehicle movement and substantially increases the risk of traffic accidents.
"The Main State Traffic Police Department requests drivers to reduce their speed to a minimum, maintain a greater following distance than usual, and avoid risky maneuvers such as overtaking under these weather conditions," the department stated in an official release. The BDYPI emphasized the critical importance of using lighting equipment correctly, specifically urging the use of low-beam headlights and fog lights to ensure vehicle conspicuity. Pedestrians were also advised to exercise extreme caution when crossing roads, remaining mindful that drivers may have difficulty spotting them in time.
Foggy conditions are common in the Absheron Peninsula during seasonal transitions, often leading to temporary disruptions in transport and logistics. Azerbaijan's traffic authorities frequently intensify monitoring during such periods to ensure public safety on major highways and urban arteries. The BDYPI reiterated that road safety in foggy weather depends heavily on the responsible behavior of every driver and urged all citizens to remain vigilant and cautious while commuting in the capital.
