A massive farewell ceremony for the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, and his family members was held on Azadi Street in Tehran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing TASS, that the funeral procession moved through the city accompanied by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and military personnel.
The coffins, draped in black cloth inscribed with Quranic verses, were transported by truck as security forces cleared a path through the dense crowds. More than 200 foreign journalists observed the proceedings from the roof of the city hall building.
Thousands of police officers and military personnel were deployed to ensure security and manage the crowds, which included many families with children. The event was tightly controlled by law enforcement to maintain order.
According to reports, following the ceremony in Tehran, Khamenei's remains will be transported to the city of Qom, considered a primary religious center in Iran. On July 8, the funeral procession is scheduled to be sent to Iraq, where separate farewell ceremonies will be held in the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf.
The final burial is expected to take place on July 9 in Mashhad, Khamenei's birthplace, at the Imam Reza Shrine, which is one of the most sacred sites for Shia Muslims.
